Happy New Year! We hope you are feeling some of the invigoration that comes with a New Year and a blank calendar. Our office team loves this time of year, when we set goals and envision all the good things to come. Our biggest goal for Senior Helpers in 2022 is to roll out a new, evidence backed method for performing assessments and re-assessments called Life Profile. Life Profile is a tool that takes the guesswork out of scheduling and care plan creation. It is a structured assessment tool that will allow us to identify risks in a whole new way. Stay tuned as we share more!
Of course, the year has not gotten off to the start that we hoped for as we face the latest COVID-19 surge brought on by the Omicron variant. We urge our entire community to wear a mask, isolate when necessary, and stay in communication with our office staff as things change. We will get though this together.
Thank you for being part of our community,
Shannon, Liah, Elena, Emalee and Mike
Coronavirus Updates
Booster Shots Required by February 1, 2022
All caregivers currently eligible for boosters must receive a booster dose for COVID-19 by no later than February 1, 2022. Caregivers not yet eligible for boosters must receive their booster no later than 15 days after the recommended timeframe. For more details, read the Notice from the CA Health and Human Services Agency here.
Masks Required Indoors
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is requiring masks to be worn in all indoor public settings, irrespective of vaccine status, until February 15, 2022. While we recognize many of our client's live in their own private homes, caregivers and clients are strongly encouraged to wear masks when within 6 feet of each other. You can read more about the mask mandate at the CDPH website here.
Caregiver of the Month - Congratulations to
Rosa Gutierrez
Rosa was nominated for Caregiver of the Month by her client Joan Hanna! Rosa goes above and beyond to make sure her clients feel safe, respected, and supported. She is extremely reliable and keeps a consistent schedule with the same clients which allows for a strong relationship.
Rosa has worked at Senior Helpers for almost 4 years. In that time she has worked with 15 different clients. She has been such a benefit to each and every one of them. Her clients always compliment her on being proactive, she sees what needs to be done and steps in to make it happen!
Rosa is a proud Mom and Grandma. She has four kids, two boys and two girls (boy/girl/boy/girl!) ranging from 36 to 19 years old. Her grandchildren are 16 years to 6 months old. She is incredibly grateful for her family and when she is not caregiving or spending time with them, she is at church giving thanks for her many blessings.
Thank you Rosa for all of your hard work!
The Caregiver of the Month receives a $50 gift card and recognition in the Newsletter! If you would like to nominate someone for Caregiver of the Month please email Shannon at sworkman@seniorhelpers.com.
Learn that Lingo
Each month we feature a term that is commonly used in senior care.
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
ADLs are a series of basic activities necessary for independent living. The activities of daily living are organized into 5 main categories:
― Personal Hygiene (ie. bathing and showering)
― Dressing
― Eating
― Maintaining Continence
― Transferring/Mobility (ie. walking, getting up from a seated position)
Seniors are evaluated on their ability to perform these functions. Aging and disease progression often lead to a decline in the ability to perform ADLs - that's where a caregiver comes in!
W2's on Their Way
Caregivers: Watch for their arrival!
InfinitiHR will send out W2's to your address on file by January 31, 2022. Please notify us immediately if your address has changed. If you do not receive your W2 by February 1, 2022 please reach out to Emalee at ekourani@seniorhelpers.com.
January Caregiver Anniversaries
Michelle Hughes - 3 years
Thank you for your service! Senior Helpers is lucky to have you all on our team!
Welcome New Caregivers
Say hello to the newest faces of Senior Helpers!
Katherine is a student at UC Santa Barbara. She has a passion for helping others that began with her grandparents. Both of them had Alzheimer's, so she experienced the
progression firsthand, inspiring her to become a caregiver. We look forward to working with her!
Maria has a variety of skills - she is a great caregiver as well as a great chef! Maria is very sweet and enjoys helping others whatever way she can. She began caregiving for her father-in-law and found that it brought her joy and made her fulfilled. If you see Maria, give her a warm "Hello"!
Teresa began caregiving after a retreat, where she realized it was her passion. Since then, she has worked for facilities and private clients. She loves to bring smiles to their faces and help them feel cared for. We are excited to have her on the team. Welcome Teresa!
