Caregiver of the Quarter
Congratulations Amada Ferrel!
The Caregiver of the Quarter is an individual who exemplifies extraordinary commitment to their clients. They practice empathy and respect while improving their client’s quality of life. They are team players who are extremely reliable and cover shifts when they are able. They must be employed with Senior Helpers for a minimum of 6 months and be current with all trainings and expirations. The Caregiver of the Quarter receives a $50 gift card and is put up on the wall of fame in the office.
Amada is Caregiver of the Quarter for October, November, and December of 2020. She has been an extraordinary caregiver for us, working almost 4,500 hours in almost two years with Senior Helpers. Amada has been a loyal and responsible caregiver; she is consistent, reliable, and always on time. She is well-liked by coworkers, becoming a wonderful asset to any team she joins. Amada is focused and stays calm in stressful situations, concentrating on the client’s safety and happiness before all else. Clients and their families look forward to having Amada on shift due to her dedication and commitment to the client, and continue to request her back time and time again.
Amada moved to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles twenty-six years ago with her three children, and has not looked back since. Amada raised her two daughters and one son all on her own, and loves seeing the wonderful people they have become. In her spare time, Amada loves to read mystery books and spend time with her two grandchildren, aged 9 and 11, who she loves dearly.
Amada got into caregiving because her daughter, a nurse/CNA, encouraged her to do so. Her daughter knew how much Amada loved helping others, especially the elderly. We’re thankful that Amada followed this path and began her caregiving career with us here at Senior Helpers!

Due to our wonderful caregivers, Senior Helpers was recognized as a Top National At-Home Care Employer on Fortune's Best Workplaces for Aging Services! This is a huge honor and it would not be possible without our wonderful staff.
COVID-19
As COVID-19 rates are going up in Santa Barbara County, Senior Helpers felt we needed to take greater precautions to protect our clients and caregivers. To do this we began daily symptom and temperature checks with caregivers before the start of their workday. We greatly appreciate the cooperation with this and the effort everyone is taking in keeping us safe. Keep it up!

Garlic Butter Baked Salmon
This salmon recipe is made on one pan with roasted potatoes, asparagus, and a garlic butter sauce! It’s easy to make with minimal ingredients. Salmon is a protective antioxidant, a great source of protein, and full of vitamins and minerals.
2 tablespoons dry white wine (or sub with ¼ cup low sodium chicken broth)
1 lemon sliced to garnish
Directions
Heat oven to 400˚F. On a large rimmed baking sheet, toss together potatoes with the oil, ½ tablespoon of garlic, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Spread out in an even layer and roast for 15 minutes until they’re just starting to soften and brown.
Push potatoes to one side of the sheet pan and arrange salmon down the center. Rub salmon evenly with 1 ½ tablespoons of the minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of parsley. Add the asparagus to the other side of the pan.
Combine ¼ cup of lemon juice and ¼ cup of the melted butter together and pur the mixture over the salmon and asparagus. Season everything with the remaining salt and pepper.
Return to oven and continue baking until the potatoes are golden and fork-tender and the salmon is opaque throughout (about 10 minutes) Optional: broil in the last two minutes for charred edges.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the remaining butter, garlic and lemon juice with the wine (or chicken stock). Serve with the salmon, veggies, and lemon slices!
Salmon can be a bit intimidating to make, but this recipe is easy to follow and turns out perfect every time. Enjoy something new and tasty in 2021!
