What a busy start to the year it has been! Not only did we have our customary uptick of new clients that happens after the holidays, but we also have been hard at work rolling out Life Profile and preparing to send Liah to a leadership program called the Management Action Program (MAP). MAP includes a 3 day intensive workshop where Liah will receive feedback that many of you have provided and learn vital concepts in leadership, communication, and teamwork. She will bring back a renewed energy and focus us on how we can continue to improve our business for you.
We have been using the Life Profile tool for all assessments and already seeing amazing results. These structured assessments result in more specific care plans that prioritize what our caregivers can do to keep each client safe at home. We love the confidence that these reports give us, our clients, and their families.
Of course, the Omicron variant has thrown us some curveballs but we tip our hats to everyone for testing, masking, and boosting as required. A special shout out to our fearless scheduler, Elena , for making it through another month!
January ended on a high note when we got to enjoy a beautiful birthday lunch for Liah at the new Reunion Kitchen on East Beach. The food was delicious and we definitely recommend it! Just be sure to make a reservation.
Have a Great Month,

Caregiver of the Month - Congratulations to
Rose Moreno
Recently Rose agreed to cover an extra nightshift with a client she had just started working with. When we called the family member to let them know, they sighed a huge sigh of relief and said "Thank you, Rose is so good with my Grandpa and we feel so comfortable when she is here."
It doesn't take long to see that Rose is an excellent caregiver. She is naturally charismatic and upbeat. Any time we call her she has a positive attitude, even when it's to tell her the next caregiver is running late! She treats all of her clients as if they are her family. She has high standards for how they should be cared for. We appreciate her ability to get personal care tasks done with our clients, while maintaining their dignity. She is a great addition to any team. In fact she has been one of the original members of a 24/7 client for over 2 years!
Rose started working as a caregiver at the age of 18 years. Her mom and two of her Mom's friends were RNs and caregivers. They trained her to work with them and then she got the ultimate training by taking care of all three of them! Besides her work as a caregiver Rose had a very successful career in restaurant management in Los Angeles. She started at Sizzler's and then transferred to iHop where she became the Area Director of 24 restaurants. A tuna melt with jalapenos was her favorite meal and since she is a workaholic the chefs knew to make her one or she wouldn't eat! Rose still has that same appetite for work and rarely takes a break, but when she does it is to visit her three children.
As Caregiver of the Month Rose receives a $50 gift card! If you would like to nominate someone for Caregiver of the Month please email Shannon at sworkman@seniorhelpers.com.
Welcome New Caregivers
Say hello to the newest faces of Senior Helpers!
Marilyn became a CNA at a young age, then switched career paths, but has now come back to caregiving. She is the care manager for her family but loves to help others however she can.
We are excited to see her put her former skills back into use and care for our clients!
Will is a Bio-Psychology major at UC Santa Barbara. He is interested in getting involved in the medical field, and enjoys being one-on-one with people and creating a connection. If you see Will, give him a warm welcome to the team!
Tonisha began caregiving through her grandmother, which inspired her to begin working for IHSS and in facilities. Tonisha enjoys In-Home care as it feels more personal; she enjoys getting to know and truly help her clients. Welcome to Senior Helpers, Tonisha!
Learn that Lingo
Each month we feature a term that is commonly used in senior care.
Long Term Care Insurance
LTCI is a specific type of insurance that covers the services we provide. In fact, it is the only type of insurance that will cover in home care. Most policies have a deductible, or waiting period, that must be met before they will start to reimburse. To use their policy, clients usually must need help with one or more Activities of Daily Living which are
― Personal Hygiene (ie. bathing and showering)
― Dressing
― Eating
― Maintaining Continence
― Transferring/Mobility (ie. walking, getting up from a seated position)
We are very experienced at helping our clients get the maximum use out of their long term care insurance policy. Our documentation is specially tailored to meet insurance requirements.
Coronavirus Updates
Booster Shots Required
All caregivers must receive a booster dose for COVID-19 when eligible. For more details, read the Notice from the CA Health and Human Services Agency here.
Masks Required Indoors
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is requiring masks to be worn in all indoor public settings, irrespective of vaccine status, until February 15, 2022. While we recognize many of our client's live in their own private homes, caregivers and clients are strongly encouraged to wear masks when within 6 feet of each other. You can read more about the mask mandate at the CDPH website here.
