A Note from the Office

Season's Greetings

Dear Senior Helpers Community,

Happy Holidays! 2020 was a year none of us could have imagined but we have made it through to another holiday season. COVID-19 brought us an entirely new definition of normal life that extends into the way we can celebrate this holiday season. Never the less, we can continue to find joy in the season. We hope you are able to connect safely with those you care about to acknowledge your traditions in new and creative ways.

Usually in our December newsletter we reflect back on the events and successes of the year. While we certainly had less events this year, we had no shortage of success. Our clients and caregivers continually stepped up to the plate to take care of each other. Each new protocol that we put in place, from scheduling changes, to PPE requirements, to social distancing requests, was met with compliance and respect. Thank you for working with us as we adapted our business for your safety.

What we will remember most from 2020 is the resilience that everyone showed. Caregivers are essential workers, and we are very fortunate to have the best group of them in Santa Barbara. They have continued to work, while our clients have continued to trust us with their health and safety. Both of these things have allowed us to maintain our business, and for that we would like to express our eternal gratitude.

Maternity Leave

Baby Boy Workman is due January 21, 2021! In preparation for his arrival, Director of Operations Shannon Workman will be taking Maternity Leave starting January 4, 2021 and expects to return to the office in May 2021. (We only say expects to return because we all know what happens to the best laid plans – but she will definitely be back!)

While Shannon is gone, Client Service Manager Liah Ramirez will be overseeing the internal office and step in as direct supervisor to the caregivers. Liah has been with our team for almost 6 years and we are excited to see her flourish in this management capacity. To round out the office staff, Emalee Kourani has joined our team as a Client Service Coordinator. She will be involved in all aspects of the business, with a focus on recruiting and hiring caregivers. Our third office member is Scheduler Elena Arguello and she will continue her excellent scheduling!

Introducing Emalee Kourani

Emalee Kourani joined our office team in November 2020. She has a BA in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara. An avid traveler, Emalee completed a semester abroad at University of Copenhagen. Before joining the Senior Helpers team, she worked as a Behavioral Instructor for kids and adults with Autism. She loves going to the beach, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

Baby Shower

A huge thank you to my Senior Helpers family for the thoughtfully planned, socially distanced, SURPISE baby shower! I was shocked to walk in one Friday in December to these adorable decorations and gifts. It was such a treat to see those of you who were able to stop by for a quick celebration and I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture with everyone. I can’t wait to add Baby Workman to the Senior Helpers Team and yes I will spam the newsletter with his baby photos!
