November is National Home Care and Hospice Month. This awareness month recognizes the countless nurses, home care aides, caregivers, social workers and more who make a remarkable difference in the lives of patients and the families they serve.  These dedicated home care professionals and volunteers play an essential role in our health care system and in homes across the nation.

In addition, Home Care Aide Week takes place the second full week of the month, November 12-18, 2022. Join us in honoring the compassionate and noble individuals who play an invaluable role in the lives of their clients as caregivers, companions, and friends.

How do you know if the time is right to get some additional support in your home? Choosing to get additional in-home support for yourself or a loved one is an important decision. In some cases, a physician may recommend certain services that can be received at home following a fall, surgery, or an illness. But in other cases, the need for in-home care may not be as clear.

Caregivers have a personal touch. Caregivers do what is needed to relieve burden or stress to those who need care and their loved ones. Whether they are your family members, close friends or hired through an agency, caregivers can be an essential part of many people’s lives. Regardless of if they are providing care for you or a loved one, here are a few simple ways to say thank you.

Write a Note Write a note sharing how grateful you are for all their hard work.

Vocalize your appreciation Simply saying “please” or “thank you” can go a long way in showing that you are grateful for their services.

Show interest in their life Showing interest in their life and hobbies can show them that you care for them and their services.

Medication Safety:

3 Tips for Decluttering Your Medication List

Medication lists are like coffee tables. First, you just place the TV remote on it. Then, maybe next week you place that book you were catching up on. Then the week after, it’s one more thing. Before you know it, your coffee table is cluttered with things.

Tip 1: Make a medications list

Be sure to also include all over-the-counter medicines, as well as supplements.

Tip 2: Talk to your primary care physician

Make an appointment with your primary care physician to review your medications.

Tip 3: Keeping a medication off your list

If a medication is stopped or the dose is changed, make sure to put that on your list.
